With tunnelling now complete, a small group were given rare access to the Cross River Rail underground system on Sunday.
A select few people got a sneak peek into south-east Queensland public transport future with a walk through a section of the freshly dug Cross River Rail tunnel system on Sunday.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said construction was due to be finished in 2024, before testing was carried out and the first trains were set to roll through the tunnels in 2025. “We’ve got to have a better public transport network and having a new underground line that dissects the CBD that makes the Ekka line a full time line for the first time and the Ekka station a full time station for the first time is really exciting.”Bailey said those who were given rare access to the tunnel on Sunday were treated to “an experience they will never forget” especially when they are watching the Brisbane 2032 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
