Some in the cast have negligible followings on social media, too. The integrity of the starting premise is, you’d have to say, rather compromised.
Into the ostensibly tight-knit group of “locals” come a couple of out-of-towners, Sarah and Jade, both from the Gold Coast. She’s a musician, who’s come to Byron to try to progress her music career . He wastes no opportunity to let people know he is “the number-one most-followed male influencer of Australia”, with 1.2 million followers on Instagram. He’s come to Byron because, he says, “I need to surround myself with like-minded people”.
The drama unfolds around budding romance and group dynamics. The petty suspicions and sniping and bitchiness play like something straight out of high school, the sexual politics – “you’re causing beef between two guys”, one woman objects to another – we’re back in the land ofIt may be that everything really did play out organically.
