Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and communities will gather to honor those who served the country in the armed forces. Here is a San Diego County guide to Veterans Day ceremonies, parades and patriotic programs

A military service recognition program is 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5 at Coronado High School’s Performing Arts Center, sponsored by the city of Coronado as part of the Hometown Banner program. About a dozen “hometown heroes” will be honored. Free. coronado.ca.us.The 2022 Silver Strand Veterans Day Half Marathon, 10 Miler & 5K from Coronado to Imperial Beach Sunset Park is Nov. 13, organized by KOZ Events. USA Beach Party Finish with “Beach Boys” Cover Band and Beer Garden. Entry fees $52-$125.

For more information, including parking and shuttles, go to soledadmemorial.org.The Fleet Week Veterans Day Boat Parade featuring boats decorated in patriotic themes starts at noon Nov. 11, from Shelter Island and will pass Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, the USS Midway and Seaport Village. Highlights include vintage plane flyovers, live Coast Guard demos and other patriotic activities.

The Fleet Week San Diego Veterans Day Boat Parade can be viewed from the flight deck of the USS Midway Museum, 910 N. Harbor Drive. Free admission to the Midway on Nov. 11, for active-duty military and veterans and up to two additional family members with current military ID or proof of service presented at the Midway’s ticket booth, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Tickets are $18-$26. A Veterans Day blood drive hosted by the San Diego Blood Bank is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov.

The San Marcos 2021 Veterans Day Ceremony themed “Honor - Answering the Call to Duty” is 2 p.m. followed by a reception 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at Helen Bougher Memorial Park, 1243 Borden Road. The park will be adorned with red, white and blue flowers and American flags. Speakers include San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones. The master of ceremonies is retired Col. Greg Rassatt.
