Mr Edman insisted during his evidence to secret hearings that it was a work trip, to"have a look at their infrastructure … and the councils".In part it came to that conclusion thanks to Mr Edman's own words in conversations he had with colleagues, including those who accompanied him that were secretly recorded.
"I know we claimed it, I know we bloody claimed, we would have claimed the airfares or something on it uhm," he said according to the report.The laptop that could 'bury a lot of people' But perhaps more ominous for Mr Edman's former colleagues were conversations about the CCC seizing a laptop during raid of his business and home.
The CCC noted the"concerns" he expressed over the laptop were not because of the disclosure of any material that may be subject to parliamentary privilege, but because its contents could portray members, both current and former, in an"unflattering light".
