Today marks 11 years since the tornado super outbreak of 2011 that killed 240 people in Alabama alone. Alabama wasn't the only state hit during the outbreak, which lasted from April 25th until the 28th, but it was hit the hardest.Eleven years ago today Alabama was in the midst of a weather nightmare -- the historic tornado outbreak of April 27, 2011.
Alabama was hit the hardest, according to NOAA. There were not one but two EF-5 monster tornadoes -- on one day. There were also a staggering seven -- seven -- EF-4s on that day, all of which formed within about five and a half hours.The April 27, 2011, outbreak came in three destructive waves that altogether lasted about 18 hours.

According to the National Weather Service this tornado was produced by a supercell thunderstorm that began in Newton County, Miss., at 2:54 p.m., and finally dissipated in Macon County, N.C., at approximately 10:18 p.m. So, this supercell existed for about 7 hours and 24 minutes and traveled approximately 380 miles.5:05 p.m. EF-4, 180 mph winds, Bridgeport.
