Supporters of Alexei Navalny fear Russia's most prominent opposition leader has been moved to one of the country's most notorious prisons, a high-security penal colony infamous for the abuse and torture of inmates.

Russia's most prominent opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, has been abruptly moved from the prison where he was serving a 12-year sentence to a high-security penal colony that is infamous for its abuse and torture of inmates.

IK-6 has a notorious reputation in the Russian penal system, with widespread claims of torture, beatings, humiliation and rape of prisoners by guards and other convicts. Mr Navalny casts President Vladimir Putin's Russia as a dystopian state, run by thieves and criminals, where wrong is right and judges are corrupt representatives of a doomed elite.
