“He’s just trying to find his move again,” hitting instructor Tim Hyers said. “When a hitter has a foot or hand injury, it can really do some wacky things. He’s been searching for timing and move. I really think he is just one swing away from it.”Heim, a switch-hitter, is a natural right-handed hitter and thrower. Because of that, he said, it’s a bit easier for him to “feel” things in his swing when he’s working from the right side. He wasn’t able to do that for the first month after the injury.
has he started taking even batting practice swings right-handed. He has just three plate appearances from the right side since returning.“Whenever I’ve needed to find something, I’ve always been able to feel through it from the right-hand side first, then flip it,” Heim said. “I think confidence comes with that, too. And I think over-thinking sometimes plays a factor in things for me.
“I’m seeing a guy trying to get back to where he was,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “I think the swings are getting better. But the guy is still trying to find his way. He’s healthy and he’s trying to get that swing back.”“I don’t like to hear that,” Bochy said. “I think that’s an excuse. No one’s asking anybody to do too much. You know, just be yourself, try to get the bat to the ball or get a good pitch to hit or talk a walk. We’re not asking anybody to carry the lineup.
Jung is expected to see Arizona hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan on Thursday in Phoenix and, if given full medical clearance, he could stay in the area an extra day or two to take live at-bats off pitchers at the Rangers’ spring training complex in Surprise, Ariz., before rejoining the team either for the end of the weekend series at Cleveland or the start of the season’s final homestand on Monday.
