Who remembers the Quayside and The Glass House? 🍸 🥂

Lincoln's nightlife sure has changed since I first stepped into the city two decades ago, not sure what to expect.

It is also rather special having the memory of taking disposable cameras on a night out and then waiting to get them developed, even though nowadays this could be frustrating. The Brayford also has The Square Sail bar, known as Lloyds, which is still there today. Although it hasn’t changed all that much inside in 20 years, it doesn’t quite have the same lively vibe created by the DJ and mini dancefloor back then.

Back on campus, and there was the The Shed, affectionately known by journalism students as Newsroom 7 - another great place to watch football, play pool, enjoy a fry up and have a laugh with friends. That is now The Swan, but its name will never change for me. I believe The Engine Shed’s first event was our graduation ball in 2006, and it has since become a staple of Lincoln’s nightlife, especially for students.

The nearby bar Kind has also seen changes, transforming into The Curiosity Shop before, more recently, turning into a bar called Be At One.Another great bar in that direction is Strait & Narrow which has a large array of drinks and cocktails, and bar staff are more than skilled enough to make customised ones on the spot.

Whether people like it or not, I think some may consider it almost wrong if I didn’t mention Trebles, which this year celebrated its 15th birthday. It was formerly known as The Falcon, but we still called it Trebles at uni, even though it wasn’t officially called it back then. The building now occupied by Home used to house another nightclub called The Annexe. Photo: Google Street View

It is all change there now - Void and Level occupy the top two floors and The Authentic Bierkeller taking over at the bottom. Also on Silver Street was Chicago Rock Cafe where I remember spending a Lincoln City Knights rugby night. That building has changed hands multiple times, becoming Wahoo nightclub, Quo Vadis, and Swampy John’s.
