The article, by an anonymous writer about the dystopian life in Hong Kong under authoritarianism, was edited by Mr Chan for a writing competition three years earlier. He said his family was told that if they refused to cooperate, they would be arrested.Mr Chan said the incident had scared him into shutting down his organisation, which promoted Cantonese writing and speaking.
Mr Chan told the ABC he was not sure how the article violated the national security law but he immediately took it down to protect his family.Andrew Chan has now shut down his organisation, which promoted the use of Cantonese. He said he wanted to "take on the responsibility" and clarify that it was him "who posted the article online", instead of blame being placed on "those who live in Hong Kong".It shows five people arriving at his house, with one of them displaying a card after being asked about his identity and stating that he is a police officer.Mr Chan has not been charged and police would not comment on the details of the case.
