A top sporting official has rubbished suggestions cancelling the 2026 Commonwealth Games has not damaged Victoria's reputation for hosting major events.
Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee on Monday said he believed the games' axing has made Victoria a"place to avoid" for event organisers for some time to come.
"If anything it's increased the interest in people coming to Melbourne and Victoria," Mr McClements said. "No, not in my experience. I meet regularly with CEOs of… the other Olympic sports… to talk about issues and I don't think any of my colleagues would agree with that statement either," he said. "In the process of finding a new home, there's no doubt that our international body felt uncomfortable about the security of the event remaining with Australia," Mr Dee said.
Commonwealth Games Australia CEO Craig Phillips told the inquiry on Monday Victoria's decision to walk away from the games three years out had made life"difficult" for the Commonwealth Games movement.
