The Athletics jumped to a 6-1 lead and held on to beat Tampa Bay to win three of four in road series.
The A’s were opportunistic on offense and got 6 1/3 strong innings from starter Cole Irvin Thursday to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-3 and win three of four games in a road series against a team that won 100 games last season.
Irvin, who had retired 14 straight batters, departed with one out in the seventh after giving up a leadoff double to Harold Ramirez and a one-out two-run home run to Brandon Lowe. Domingo Acevedo came on to strike out both Manuel Margot and Greg Zunino to end the inning.
