Of course, not all All-Star appearances are created equally, as A’s pitcher Paul Blackburn revealed to reporters on Thursday that his spot was used to fill as a supporting actor for another player’s potential late-career highlight. Even wilder was the fact that the other player, Cardinals legend Albert Pujols, was on the opposing team.that his catcher for his appearance, Toronto’s Alejandro Kirk, only called for inside fastballs when Pujols was up.
Even though Blackburn’s team sucks, it doesn’t mean he does too. This was clear with the fact that even though he went along with the plan, his stuff was good enough to prevent Pujols from mashing one into the stands. It’s worth noting the American League ended up winning the exhibition game, 3-2.
