Pathway to Sobriety at The Center in Palos Park is on track to receive nearly $25,000 from the Dash for Den 5K fun run and walk. The event honors Dennis Raber, who was 29 when he lost his life to drug addiction.

Five years after their unimaginable tragedy, the Raber family has once again raised thousands of dollars for the Pathway to Sobriety program at The Center in Palos Park through the Dash for Den 5K fun run and walk. The event honors Dennis Raber, who was 29 when he lost his life to drug addiction. Pathway to Sobriety, which he participated in, is on track to receive nearly $25,000 from this year’s race, which had about 200 participants, said Mark Raber, Dennis Raber’s father.

“He had a really great last year of sobriety, worked hard,” Raber said. “He found a lot of comfort in life with relationships, with work. He went hard on meditation and yoga. That really helped. All these guys have a real hard desire to be normal.” He eventually ingested some cocaine “and that was 100% fentanyl,” Raber said, adding that hearing about his son’s death “was the worst day ever. …. You don’t have much of a chance with fentanyl — it’s so powerful.
