The best gigs in August 2023 in Manchester, previewed
Sadly, August is the last month of summer and it's now upon us - although only God knows how climate change will impact our seasons in the years to come. That means one marker that we're nearing autumn may well not be the weather.
Originally from Ontario, the group features on the United By Music tour in which The National Lottery and Music Venue Trust will be staging live music events in Eurovision host city Liverpool and all 17 towns and cities in the UK that bid to host the event. The variety in the line-up for 150 gigs is a credit to the organisers and, perhaps intentionally, there's little crossover in style for fans of Eurovision.
Oceans on Mars — Night & Day — August 9 The 90s are all the rage at the moment — but while the Barbie movie has given Aqua a resurgence, few would have expected grunge to make a comeback in the mid-2020s. That’s what Oceans on Mars are trying to do. In previous years, Mega Bog proved the masters of bouncy, whimsical pop with warm, catchy guitar and piano motifs. But newer tracks like ‘Anthropocene’ and ‘Complete Book of Roses’ verge on operatic as her spacey, bluesy, 70s influences become obvious.
The Yes show therefore represents the end of the beginning for Sleepz, and will hope to play larger and larger venues as his career progresses. Grab tickets here. Thus Love — Yes — August 25 Thus Love have the distinct buzz of a band toting that shiny magic of something a bit special. The post-punk outfit’s debut album was met with acclaim – and they’ve been smart by cutting their teeth by touring with Dry Cleaning, one of the cornerstones of that scene in the UK.
The band announced their reunion late last year and are now embarking on a string of live dates, including London and Manchester. They play New Century Hall on Saturday, August 26.
