Cameron said every year Getty looked back at the strongest images from the past 12 months, adding that such images perfectly documented defining moments of the year.

“Powerful images can tell a story in a single frame, often as a result of the photographer anticipating a moment and being prepared to capture it in a split second before it has gone. “I think photos illustrating life in Australia returning to normal following the COVID-19 pandemic best summarise the year that was,” Cameron said.

“A good photograph is all about the subject, captured in a way that visually tells a narrative on its own merit. It can draw the viewer in and evoke emotion,” Cameron said.
