Thomas Frank isn't expecting Aaron Hickey to play for Brentford again this season, but ISN'T ruling out his chances of going to the Euros...even if his chances 'aren't fantastic.'
Scotland don't have their injury problems to seek ahead of Euro 2024, especially in Hickey's position. Nathan Patterson's campaign was ended early after suffering an injury for Everton in their 6-0 drubbing away to Chelsea earlier this month. He'll need surgery on a hamstring problem and is facing a race against time to be fit for Germany.
Stuart Armstrong is another who won't play again for his club this season. The Southampton star has injured a quad muscle, but boss Russell Martin has vowed they will do everything they can to get him get to be part of Clarke's squad, despite the Saints accepting they will be without the former Dundee Utd and Celtic midfielder. And Lewis Ferguson's Euro dreams have been shattered by a knee injury suffered playing for Bologna.
Hickey hasn't played for the Bees since October and Frank admits that's unlikely to change at this late stage of the campaign. The Dane concedes that a lack of game time between now and the summer won't exactly boost Hickey's chances for the tournament, but will leave that call up to Clarke. “He's progressing," said Frank. “As he's been out for so long I’m not counting on him playing this season but let’s see what happens in the next weeks - right now I’m not expecting it. I guess it's not fantastic but that’s not for me to judge”
