The deceased was found dead in the stairwell of a multi-level car park at Wollongong train station on Sunday morning.Police have been conducting forensic tests and the matter will return to court in July.
A man charged with the murder of a 69-year-old man in Wollongong on the weekend remains in custody after appearing in court today. Aaron Michael Lord, 37, appeared in Wollongong Local Court via video link and did not apply for bail. Raymond McCormack was found dead in a stairwell in a multi-level car park next to Wollongong train station at 7:20am on Sunday.The ABC understands Mr McCormack was homeless and is believed to have been sheltering in the stairwell.Mr Lord was arrested on nearby Crown Street three hours after the body was found and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged.The court heard that he had agreed to submit to a forensic procedure conducted by police after his arrest.
Magistrate Claire Girotto told the court the procedure was undertaken after Mr Lord was seen assaulting the victim and hosing down the area.On Sunday crowds at a church and cafe across the street watched on as forensic teams marked evidence and police patrolled the building in the pouring rain.The matter will return to court in July.
