Barely weeks after apologising for reporting there were acts of 'white supremacy' at an Alice Springs community meeting, the ABC has issued an extraordinary directive to staff to scrap 'grog' and 'booze' in reports to avoid 'perpetuating stereotypes'.
The ABC has directed its staff to avoid certain language when talking about alcohol restrictions in the Northern Territory so that it can be seen to report"in a way that is accurate, impartial and does not inadvertently perpetuate stereotypes".
The ABC was swiftly frozen out of the community for airing the white supremacist remarks and for a later segment on the Drum which likened the townhall as a scene straight out of"Mississippi Burning". “It is very important that the ABC is seen to report these issues in a way that is accurate, impartial and does not inadvertently perpetuate stereotypes."
