Sky News host Chris Kenny says the ABC has made the resignation of Rugby Australia’s boss Raelene Castle, “actually about identity politics” and not the other issues facing the game.

On Thursday, Raelene Castle had resigned as CEO of Rugby Australia. After accepting the role in 2017, Ms Castle’s tumultuous reign as chief executive included the Israel Folau saga and more recently involved 11 former Wallabies captains signing a letter of no-confidence concerning the Rugby Australia executive. Ms Castle issued a statement communicating to the public her resignation and saying she “will do whatever is needed to ensure an orderly handover”.

“Forget about money, television rights, crowds, audiences or on field performances, I've been surprised to learn from the ABC that this resignation was actually about identity politics,” Mr Kenny said. “And no, not the identity politics that saw the demise of Israel Folau, apparently it was identity that helped take down Castle herself”. “So many issues, so many problems, so many challenges, but it’s all about gender apparently,” he said.
