Premier Dominic Perrottet said 'I’ll climb up there myself and put it up if I need to' after the New South Wales government committed to flying the Aboriginal flag atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge all year round.

Mr Perrottet has turned up the pressure on NSW bureaucrats to speed up the installation of a third flagpole so the Aboriginal flag can call the iconic site home for 365 days of the year. For just 19 days of the year, the Aboriginal flag replaces the NSW flag.

The Aboriginal flag is seen alongside the Australian flag on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on January 26. Picture: Lisa Maree Williams/Getty ImagesHe said the first advice he received indicated it would take two years to put in place the third flagpole. “In the 1920s it took nine years to build the Harbour Bridge but apparently today it takes two years to put a flagpole on top of the Harbour Bridge," Mr Perrottet said. The Premier said the situation showed government departments “need to work faster”.
