Labor MP Josh Burns and Liberal Senator Dave Sharma have stood together in a display of bipartisan unity to condemn an antisemitic attack in Sydney on Thursday.

Politicians on opposing sides of the political spectrum have united to condemn an antisemitic attack in Sydney amid concerns about rising levels of hate crime ahead of the election.

“I'm really pleased to be standing here with Dave Sharma. This is above politics. This is about the sort of country that we want to see together” Mr Burns said on Thursday.Senator Dave Sharma and Josh Burns MP held a press conference at Parliament House in Canberra after an attack on a prominent Jewish suburb in Sydney. The pair also warned the rise of such attacks could have serious consequences in the run-up to the election as antisemitism has risen in recent months. “The Jewish community in Sydney... do not deserve to be the targets of violence. Every single person in our country deserves to live in safety, dignity and peace.”

“No doubt the Jewish community feels significantly less safe in Australia than it ever has. And attacks like this... are only reinforcing that message." NSW Police have set up Strike Force Mylor to investigate the attack and are treating it as a hate crime.
