Even blocks away from the epicenter of the crowd, their chant was audible: “Bans off our bodies! Bans off our bodies!”

The rally was one of many held across the nation in the wake of the leak of a draft opinion suggesting that the Supreme Court’s conservative majority wereruling that decreed women had the constitutional right to have an abortion. Pushing a stroller carrying her 2-year-old son, Benjamin, college adviser Leah Bentley, 29, said the draft opinion represented a step backward.

“While abortion may not be right for me at this point in my life, it is extremely important to other women and other people who need access to safe health care, and the fact that our rights as humans are being infringed upon all over the United States is absolutely atrocious,” Bentley said. “And we need to be able to just, like so many people have before us, fight, unfortunately, for our rights.”
