An 18-year-old Indigenous man has found himself in an “absurd situation” as he fights a legal battle in the NSW Supreme Court to be adopted by foster parents who have cared for him since he was two years old, according to Sky News host Cory Bernardi.
While he was only seven when his Aboriginality was revealed, due to his foster parents being white the law states that, as a first preference, an Aboriginal child is to be adopted by someone in the Aboriginal community to which their birth parent belongs.
In making a legal application to be adopted, the young man told the courts he feels like “no one is listening to me”. “Note the man said he’ll identify with his culture as he pleases. Incredibly, in this age of identity politics, his cultural identity is being made for him,” Mr Bernardi said. “This is an absurd situation brought on by a bunch of do-gooders who have no idea about what is best for children.”

At the time the Indigenous leader made those remarks, Mr Leeser said he was taking his son to the synagogue. “That’s not the sort of debate we should be conducting,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

Voice referendum suggests Aboriginal people are ‘inherently disadvantaged’ because of ‘race’Country Liberal Party Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price says the Voice referendum is “racial stereotyping” as it suggests that Aboriginal communities are “inherently disadvantaged” because of race. “It is wrong to say we’re not already recognised in our constitution,” Ms Price told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “We are recognised because we are Australian citizens, and to go down this path actually treats us differently - it suggests that we are different, it suggests we are inherently disadvantaged because of our race.”
