New Accor Pacific boss Sarah Derry said bring in luxury brands like Raffles would be a key driver of its growth plans in Australia and New Zealand over the coming years as she tipped the hotel sector to return to pre-COVID-19 operating levels as early as next year.
“We want to grow. Luxury hotels are an area we are excited about,” said Ms Derry, who oversees a portfolio in Australia of 336 hotels and 54,000 rooms across brands like Ibis, Novotel, Pullman and Sofitel.where we expect the trend of strong performance to continue.”Since 2020, Accor has opened 18 hotels in Australia including the country’s first two Movenpick hotels in Hobart and Melbourne and the Sofitel Adelaide.to manage a portfolio of 10 former Travelodge hotels under Accor brands.
“If someone loves surfing and only wants to work afternoon and evening shifts, we will accommodate that,” she said.Looking more broadly at the hotel recovery, Ms Derry said she was confident the steady improvement in performance would continue leading to a full recovery in occupancy and rates by 2023 or 2024 at the latest.
