Embattled Health Minister Jenny Mikakos has denied she misled the inquiry into the Victorian government's botched hotel quarantine system after evidence emerged throwing her testimony into doubt.
"At the time of giving evidence to the Board, both by my First Statement and in person on 24 September 2020, I had no independent recollection of the matters raised in the media today," the Health Minister wrote.
Daniel Andrews' statement to the inquiry on Friday directly contradicts his minister's evidence that the hotel quarantine program was a "multi-agency response with shared accountability", while other aspects of her testimony have also been thrown into doubt. Hours after national cabinet announced on March 27 returned travellers would be quarantined in hotels, the Premier said at a press conference that security guards would be used for the program, alongside Australian Defence Force personnel and Victoria Police.
The draft resolution voted on by the Trades Hall Council says the government failed to consult with unions over their plans for Frankston Hospital and called for the expressions of interest process to be rescinded. The union claims the hospital may have breached the Fair Work Act and could be liable for compensations and damages to workers affected by the changes."The HWU is now on a war footing with the Andrews government," Ms Asmar said. "We will be fighting against contracting out of our public hospitals from now until election day."Mr Andrews stood by Ms Mikakos on Friday, before his own appearance at the inquiry, saying all his ministers had his confidence.
