A Melbourne accountant who acted for performers including Gotye and Angus and Julia Stone, and a string of Melbourne hospitality venues has been jailed for almost four years.

A Melbourne accountant to a string of hospitality and music stars will spend almost four years in jail after admitting he swindled more than $2.1 million from their accounts over 11 years.

As part of his employment, Luscombe was responsible for overseeing his clients’ day-to-day accounts, including bookkeeping tour accounting and tax obligations. An investigation found $502,495 was stolen from the Meatball and Wine Bar, $625,639 from Peking Duk, $495,000 from Gotye, $40,586 from Angus and Julia Stone, and $495,000 from the company Op Shop Songs. Other victims include the St Jerome’s Laneway festival and hospitality venues Ponyfish Island and Mr Miyagi.

A forensic examination of his bank account showed most of the defrauded funds were gambled away through online accounts with Sportsbet, BetEasy and William Hill. “I am deeply embarrassed and ashamed of my conduct, and I apologise to each client and to White Sky.” “Damo used to look us in the eye with smiles, and he used to chat to us candidly, as friends about our money. That is something which I can’t understand.”
