A man accused of striking a pedestrian in a fatal hit and run used cleaning liquid to later set the borrowed car alight, police say.

an elderly pedestrian set his car alight using cleaning liquid and a lighter after the crash, police allege.

Joshua Alexander Scott allegedly ran a red turning signal at speed, before striking the 72-year-old at an intersection at Chermside in Brisbane's north yesterday morning. The pedestrian suffered "significant injuries" and died on the way to hospital. Scott, 35, allegedly slowed after the impact then sped off, running another red light before driving to nearby Wavell Heights, burning the car and throwing away his phone.

Police allege Scott then poured a bottle of flammable cleaning liquid on the driver's seat of the borrowed Honda CRV, and used a lighter to set the car on fire.Scott was later arrested at his workplace in Geebung and charged with dangerous driving causing death, leaving the scene of incident without obtaining help and arson.

Scott's matter was briefly mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court today but he was not required to appear.

A further 33 per cent of commuters will be of the same duration on more efficient routes, while 13 per cent of bus commuters will have slightly slower bus trips, but have more suburban buses. The LNP’s plan introduces “two-seat” bus trips to Brisbane, where commuters take a suburban bus to a Brisbane Metro hub, and then travel by Metro through the CBD. Under the LNP’s $1.4 billion Brisbane Metro plan, the 60 three-car mega buses will collect passengers from suburban hubs - such as this one at University of Queensland -and carry them through the CBD on a five-minute frequency. At the 19 Brisbane Metro hubs, the suburban buses return to extra suburban bus services, while the passengers hop on to Metro rapid transit buses to travel every five minutes to the CBD
