A NSW man who allegedly blew up a car following a road rage incident in a McDonald's carpark will remain in custody after an emotional court appearance.

A New South Wales man accused of placing an explosive device on a car after an alleged road-rage incident has lost his bid for bail.after a couple beeped their horn at his partner while she was in a McDonalds drive through at Warrawong in February.

Police allege the refrigerator mechanic and his partner, a 31-year-old Lake Heights woman, also stalked, intimidated and threatened the couple using a carriage service over several weeks. The pair were arrested and charged on Tuesday after an investigation by the Fixated Persons Investigations Unit. In Wollongong Court on Thursday Mr Sharp appeared via video link from the police cells wearing the same clothing he was arrested in two days prior.

Supported by his mother and sister in the court, Mr Sharpe blew the pair a kiss and through tears said"I love you, mum," and"I'm sorry."
