ACT government rejected Shane Drumgold 's request to redact sections of Bruce Lehrmann inquiry report with 'adverse findings' against him Former ACT director of public prosecutions Shane Drumgold 's request to redact sections of the report from the inquiry into Bruce Lehrmann 's prosecution was denied by the government, Freedom of Information documents reveal.
The Board of Inquiry made several damning findings about the conduct of former ACT director of public prosecutions Shane Drumgold during Mr Lehrmann's prosecution for the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins. She had published numerous stories critical of Mr Drumgold's conduct since he discontinued the case in December 2022.
"The ongoing publication of the … adverse findings and comments are defamatory to my character and are causing significant ongoing damage to my reputation, my mental and physical health and my future career prospects and earning capacity." Mr Lehrmann has since been found in the Federal Court, on the balance of probabilities, to have raped Ms Higgins, but is seeking to appeal that judgment.ACT Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury wrote to Mr Drumgold on 14 March indicating the government would not remove any sections of the report. The documents which have been released do not include any response the government may have provided to Mr Drumgold's April letter.
"The report is a government record and there is no proper basis for the ACT government to interfere with that record."
