Dr Kerry Chant has urged NSW residents to 'act now' to protect themselves and the community amid a 'new wave' of COVID-19 cases that she is 'concerned' about.

New South Wales Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant has said she is"concerned" about a new wave of COVID-19 infections in the state.

There were 10,504 positive tests in the most recent 24-hour reporting period, with the peak of the wave not expected until at least the end of the month. "We predict that hospitalisations will be similar to the BA.1 wave in January, and there's lots of other viruses such as flu and RSV. So that's also a difference from what was occurring in January when we hadn't seen that uptake in flu and RSV at that time.

Dr Chant urged NSW residents to"act now" and ensure they are up-to-date with their vaccinations, with the state's third dose rate sitting at 68.1 per cent compared to the second jab figure of 95.1 per cent.
