Optus has revealed how many people have had their personal identity data stolen, with at least 2.1 million ID numbers exposed including about 150,000 from passports and 50,000 from Medicare cards, as chief executive Kelly Bayer Rosmarin said people speculating about the nature of the hack were not “talking from a position of knowledge.”
“There has been no review and no report on the nature of what has occurred,” Bayer Rosmarin said. “So anyone saying anything about it is not talking from a position of knowledge.” “We received a request from Services Australia to provide them some information by the fourth of October, and we intend to fully comply with that,” Bayer Rosmarin said.AdvertisementThe Sydney Morning Herald“Services Australia had more contact from Optus today than any other day, so actions speak louder than words.”
All up, 150,000 passport numbers were affected along with 50,000 Medicare numbers, Optus confirmed. A major portion are expired.
