The Democratic governor has announced Thursday she sent the president a letter requesting that the federal government expedite work permits and provide financial resources to help care for the estimated 100,000 asylum seekers who have come to the state in the last year.
Her spokesperson on Tuesday said it was"unfortunate that the mayor is choosing to point fingers at the state," instead of focusing on solutions.
“We can’t handle what is a federal issue and I think that is the key issue here. I don’t find any distance between the mayor and the governor on that issue," Kathryn Wylde, president of the nonprofit, said. Meanwhile, the Biden administration fired off its own letters to both Adams and Hochul, highlighting steps taken by federal government to ease the crisis and also criticizing “structural and operational issues” with the way City Hall has dealt with tens of thousands of asylum seekers.
