An Adelaide woman who faces homeless with her severely disabled son was told by a public servant to use “spells” to “manifest” a home because of a shortage of public housing. Katie Fattel, 40, has until September to find a new home because of extensive water damage in her current Woodville private rental. And she has been advised the private rental system cannot offer the home modifications her son requires.

But she said the incident pointed to the desperation of everyone involved in the housing crisis. “I think she just didn’t know what to do... I think was well-meaning,” Fattel said about her caseworker. “She saw Cassian and I in crisis, she knows our situation in a way that the people at the top don’t. “They’re so far removed from the reality of the people in crisis. “The blame needs to be applied on multiple levels.
