And it’s possible that Michigan football will not disband as a result of whatever punishment may follow.-- and more -- beforehand. Be honest: your lip gnarls at the mere sight of UM’s colors. You won’t even use their name or, during the fourth week in November, the letter “M.” And when Harbaugh made his infamous “third base” comment two years ago, Buckeye fans felt he was talking to them.This rivalry is personal for all Ohioans. It’s emotional. If Harbaugh faced a jury after this investigation, no one from this state -- or with any Buckeye ties, for that matter -- would be allowed to serve.
Neither could the people from “up north,” by the way. Their coping mechanisms throughout this media cycle have been equal parts cringe and comedic to watch. Everybody steals signs, they say. Even though Michigan allegedly stole more of them in an illegal fashion, it didn’t help the Wolverines that much. And despite Harbaugh’s program facing two NCAA investigations and a separate FBI investigation, Michigan is definitely extending his contract.Sounds silly, doesn’t it? Now look in the mirror.
Ironically, the dueling enemies are spazzing from the same source. Buckeye fans can’t grapple with the idea of Michigan beating them. And UM fans can’t accept the possibility that their wins are tainted. The fire in this rivalry blinds both ends from perspective.embroiled in a dishonest operation that breaks the rules but falls short of a Cold War-era spy operation. Ohio State fans might be mad that OSU lost twicevindicated in their calls for asterisks on each loss.
