CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Coalition of Homelessness and Housing in Ohio released data on Thursday that showed affordable housing in Ohio was becoming less accessible to those in need.COHHIO released along with the National Low Income Housing Coalition, showed that for every 100 households with “extremely low income,” there are only 40 affordable units, 6% worse in just the last year.The report also noted that the economic impact of the pandemic.
“This year we have legislation that would bolster the Ohio Housing Trust Fund and create a new state housing tax credit,” Riegel said news release. “Let’s not squander these opportunities to make home a reality for thousands of homeless families, low-income seniors, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable Ohioans.
“With nearly 400,000 households spending over half their income on rent, many families are living on the edge. If a parent loses a job, gets sick, or becomes pregnant, the family too often faces eviction and the prospects of homelessness.”by 25% by 2017. The plan would reduce reliance on emergency shelters, increase rapid-rehousing and permanent housing capacity, connect residents at risk of homelessness to income and support services, and improve equity in housing.
