The affidavit justifying the Federal Bureau Investigation's (FBI) raid on the former president's Mar-a-Lago home earlier this month will be unveiled in less than 24 hours - but there's a catch.

Federal Magistrate Court Judge Bruce E. Reinhart ordered on Thursday for the document to be made available due to public interest and after a group of media organisations asked him to unseal the document.

Offer ends 31 October, 2022 “I find that the Government has met its burden of showing a compelling reason/good cause to seal portions of the Affidavit because disclosure would reveal the identities of witnesses, law enforcement agents, and uncharged parties, the investigation’s strategy, direction, scope, sources, and methods, and grand jury information protected by Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure," he wrote.

Judge Reinhart was the magistrate who signed the FBI's application to execute the search warrant earlier this month. The former president's legal team asked a federal judge on Monday to stop the agency from further reading classified documents that were seized until a third party"special master" was appointed by the court.

Eleven documents, some labelled"top secret", were taken, according to the redacted search warrant, which also stated the former president was being investigated for possibly violating three laws under the Espionage Act.
