For the first time since the fall of Kabul almost a year ago, Afghanistan’s ambassador in exile has spoken out in the wake of his country’s earthquake devastation:
The latest incident also comes alongside Afghanistan grappling with a severe economic crisis and famine.
“The international community can provide a major role - they are already putting hands together in terms of humanitarian assistance for people of Afghanistan,” he said."The expertise are there the experience of NGOS and local civil society communities they are still doing their job to channel funds to affected areas.”
In April this year, the Morrison government announced an additional $40 million in ongoing support for Afghanistan.Afghan children stand near a house that was destroyed in an earthquake in the southwestern part of Khost Province.Mr Waissi said because of his exile status he had no “communication with the current regime in Afghanistan” to influence the new regime’s response.
