AFL finally locks in new CEO after year-long search

McLachlan took over from Andrew Demetriou in 2014, and will have been in the role for 10 years by the time his tenure comes to an end later this year. His legacy will include the formation of the AFLW competition and its fast-tracked expansion to 18 teams, landmark TV rights deals, and steering the competition through the COVID-19 pandemic, which he described as “the biggest financial crisis in history”.
