The AFL finals fixture for the opening weekend across September 5-7 is set, with the SCG locked in to host a massive derby between the Sydney Swans and GWS Giants. The Swans-Giants qualifying final will take place on Saturday afternoon before the weekend closes with Brisbane v Carlton at the Gabba. The other qualifying final between Port Adelaide and Geelong, at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night, will lead off the September action.

The match will mark the Hawks’ first Friday night game at the MCG in 1890 days, and their first at any ground since Round 15, 2022. Every match will be live and free on Seven, right through to the grand final on September 28. The loser of Port-Geelong will host the winner of Bulldogs-Hawks in a semi-final, with the Sydney derby loser to host the Lions or Blues.
