Essendon’s controversial new ‘edge’ tactic has been a huge talking point since the AFL season began and club legend Tim Watson has now revealed how it came about. And, interestingly, it was not an idea from the club’s coaching staff.
Tim Watson explains origins of Essendon’s new strategy. Coach Brad Scott said before the explosive game against Sydney that the club had been “very explicit” he wanted his team to play with the “Essendon edge”. And in “edge”, he meant a harder, nastier approach to games. “I think all Essendon people and people who have followed our club for a long period of time know what an Essendon edge looks like, and we want that — but we want to be totally in control of what we’re doing,” Scott said.
