The AFL is increasingly optimistic that games could return from late June and boss Gillon McLachlan will present the clubs with a range of options for a return to play.

The AFL believes it is on target for a late June return to play after receiving positive feedback from all relevant governments about their health and safety protocols.

Players could be able to participate in non-contact training in groups of 10 within a fortnight as a result of the government's expected easing of restrictions that would lead to full training and then games. The AFL is in daily communication with the state governments and has received positive feedback from each government about their protocols. The league does not intend to make an announcement on their return-to-play model until the week starting on May 10.

If the national cabinet was then satisfied that the trend relating to the spread of coronavirus remained positive, then they recommend moving to Level C, which would involve full training and playing of games. Level C is effectively the green light for the AFL and NRL to play again.
