A Victorian Supreme Court judge has expressed scepticism about a plan to add all 18 AFL clubs to a class action against the league over allegations of historical racism led by Phil Krakouer and including at least six other footballers.

A Victorian Supreme Court judge has expressed scepticism about a plan to add all 18 AFL clubs to a class action against the league over allegations of historical racism led by former sporting great Phil Krakouer.

Days gone by: Jim and Phil Krakouer were two of the AFL’s most exciting players in the AFL in the 1980s.Supreme Court judge Andrew Keogh on Friday afternoon told Tim Tobin, SC, representing brothers Jim and Phil Krakouer and the other alleged victims, that he was sceptical the clubs could be added to the actions without the case dragging on for years, and becoming unmanageable due to its size.

“I think you’ve got to have some sensible discussions at a very early stage with your opponents to try and figure out a sensible, efficient way forward.”The action lodged in March involves racism claims made by Phil and Jim Krakouer, who played for North Melbourne between 1982 and 1989.The court heard that several AFL clubs might seek to be removed from the case if they are added as defendants, especially those clubs who did not exist at the time the allegations are claimed to have occurred.
