AFL club bosses have been told Victorian clubs will be relocated to Queensland for a lengthy stint that could be as long as eight or nine weeks to deal with the COVID-19 crisis

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she had agreed to allow all Victorian clubs to be based in the state subject to the strict protocols remaining in place after discussions on Wednesday morning with AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan.

The situation in NSW remains a watching brief, but at this stage Sydney and the Giants were expected to remain in their home state and the round seven and eight games scheduled to be played in Sydney would go ahead. Clubs considered far north Queensland a potential base for a hub but there was no certainty about where the other four clubs would stay.

"I stress, none of these measures can happen without strict quarantine protocols and the COVID management plan that has allowed the AFL season to proceed."Given the choice between not having a season and having it based in Queensland, I think I know what the fans would like to happen.
