The Australian Federal Police has made dozens of arrests after infiltrating an encrypted messaging platform allegedly used by the criminal underworld for large-scale drug trafficking, homicides and money laundering. Among those arrested under Operation Kraken is Sydney man Jay Ye Yoon Jung, 32, who allegedly created the app, Ghost, nine years ago when he was just 23, the ABC reports.

” AFP technical experts managed to infiltrate the “impenetrable” platform in March this year by modifying the administrator’s software updates, giving them access to 125,000 messages and 120 video calls. Hudson said more than 600 devices were actively using Ghost, and while most were in Australia, organised crime gangs in the Middle East, Italy and Korea were also being investigated.
