Afrobeats takes over BETAwards by LeahMahon_
THE AFROBEATS genre made a triumphant appearance at last night’s BET Awards as some of Africa’s biggest names took home coveted gongs.
She also was bestowed a second award this time for her joint song with fellow Afrobeats artists WizKid for Best Collaboration for their song “Essence” featuring Justin Bieber. For an awards show that has previously mainly spotlighted African-American and only in recent years black British talent, Tems – also known as Temilade Openiyi – was the first African artist to win the Best International Act.
