Robert Reid joined the NSW Police Force in 1975 and became a detective in 1981, spending four years attached to the homicide squad.
Mr Reid said he and his colleagues not only substantiated the ABC’s allegations, but found the situation was far more serious than had been reported. “We started investigating Polyukhovich in May 1989 and we charged him with war crimes in January 1990,” Mr Reid said. Mladic was accused of commanding the worst atrocity in Europe since the Nazi era, which allegedly took place in 1995. He was convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in 2017.“When I retired in August 2018, we had indicted 161 individuals and for a tribunal that was not expected to really do anything when we set up, I was satisfied we had done a fairly successful job.
