A Newark man was arrested Tuesday morning for shooting in a fatal Elizabeth shooting, authorities said.

Jefferson Louis, 25, is charged with murder and weapons offenses in the Aug. 4 slaying, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl Graves, and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca said in a joint release Tuesday.

Authorities say Elizabeth police found Archeley Brizard, 26, of Elizabeth, inside a car shortly after 12:30 p.m. near the city’s Jefferson Park. He had been shot multiple times, and was later pronounced dead, Union County Assistant Prosecutor Julie Peterman, who is prosecuting the case, said in the release.

An investigation led by several law enforcement agencies in Elizabeth and Union County charged Louis in October. After a “months-long manhunt,” the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force found and arrested Louis at an apartment in Newark, authorities said.Louis is currently being held in county jail awaiting his first court appearance, officials said. Attorney information for Louis was not immediately available.
