A fourth repatriation flight is being planned to evacuate Australians from Israel, which could be the last for the foreseeable future as the conflict escalates.
Australians fleeing Israel have been flown out on three repatriation flights overnight, with those remaining warned there may only be one more chance to escape the conflict zone. Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the Australians were flown to Dubai on two Royal Australian Air Force flights, and a privately contracted one. About 1,200 Australians had received help to leave Israel, she said.
Wong is also working on securing the safe passage of citizens out of occupied Palestinian territories. A proposed window to allow for approved foreign nationals to leave didn't eventuate and the Rafah border crossing remains closed. Wong said she was working with the Egyptians and Israelis to establish a safe humanitarian corridor. "The humanitarian situation in Gaza is of serious concern and continues to deteriorate," she said.
