The raucous Russian Hill favorite may get new life from a familiar face.
Lamina, a veteran of the San Francisco restaurant scene , was lauded for his German staples by Bauer back in a 2011 review where he noted"not only is the food comforting and good, but the selection of beer is extensive and prices are exceptional." Bauer gushed about dish after dish that showed “there's a well-trained staff in back," and, because of course, happened to sit next to a diner from Munich who said the goulash tasted “just like I was at home.
The extremely noise sensitive former critic also, of course, noted the raucous German eatery’s “ear-shattering din,” saying the “sound coming out the door of the former Antica assaulted the ears like an avalanche hits the body,” before giving it the dreaded “BOMB” noise rating after his delicate ears could take no more.
When the restaurant’s boisterous return will take effect is now in the hands of the ABC. The license has been pending since it was submitted on September 26. German restaurant Leopold's, a Russian Hill favorite, could be making its triumphant return after nearly two and a half years on hiatus.
