McGeady says David Gray saw the same things as him during training and wouldn't let them slide if he was manager.

Aiden McGeady has hinted that certain standards weren't being met during Hibs training under Lee Johnson and that David Gray could be the man to bring them back up again.

Johnson was sacked at the weekend following a 3-2 home loss to Livingston - the Hibees' third on the bounce to start the Premiership season - as the Easter Road club now search for their sixth permanent boss in four years. McGeady signed for Johnson last summer after working under him at Sunderland, but injury blighted his time in Leith, with the former Celtic winger claiming that Johnson had 'retired me about three times in the media.

Now the former Republic of Ireland international has suggested that things weren't what they should have been in training. And he reckons first team coach and club legend David Gray noticed too and was of the same opinion as McGeady. Gray will take temporary charge alongside Stuart Garden while the search for a new boss goes on. And McGeady doesn't think giving the former captain a chance longer term would be the worst idea.

He told PLZ: "It could be David Gray and I like David. I think David's got standards He's seen a lot of things that I was seeing as well and was agreeing with. "Not going behind the manager's back or anything. But things in training that would just be brushed under the carpet. A little bit of David would be seeing them and he'd be on the same page as me.
